Fun at the Park!

I wish some of the other videos turned out better, but this one of Matthew is pretty good:

Dvorak Keyboard

Well, I decided to switch to a different keyboard style called a Dvorak keyboard:
The picture is from a Mac so some of the keys are ridiculous, but you get the idea.  It's making me realize how deeply the QWERTY keyboard is ingrained into my brain.  This is one of the most difficult things I have ever done.  I am also realizing that the part of the brain for reading is different than the part for writing--if I merely copy words on a page I type faster than if I am actually writing.  This post alone is giving me a concentration headache.

On a similar note, this authors story is interesting:

Birthday Party

Went to Phoenix for a great party with the family! We also celebrated Laura's and Amanda's birthdays and it was a going away party for Josh and Laura. Whew! That's a lot to cram into one party. Thanks to everyone that worked hard setting up the party, it was a good time and thanks for the gifts! We will miss you Josh and Laura!

Twins Playing

Here's another video. The best thing about twins is the way they play together:

Facebook Privacy Options Explained.

For those of you sticking with Facebook, I just thought I would post this because it is helpful in figuring out how to set some of the privacy options:

Matthew's Downhill

We went up to Snobowl on Mount Humphrey to see what there was to see. Matthew found out gravity is a useful tool for gaining speed on a downhill slope.

No children were harmed in the making of this video - I swear.

Learning how to communicate

I just got back from two days of "listening." My company sends everyone to a communication class which, for some reason, is not required until after your first year--I guess they feel you need to just shut-up and listen until then. So, I have learned to listen first before talking and yet here I am blogging, not knowing all the little issues that could be standing in the way of us communicating effectively. I am just talking, talking, talking and ignoring those warning signals you are sending that maybe I am a tad boring, or maybe I am being insensitive. Even worse, I keep right on talking even when you are trying to get a word in...I'm sorry, what were you saying? Well, I promise to do a better job listening next time...

Videos! I hope this works out.

As Amy would say, "Liam's all boy."

Found a nice virtual desktop manager

So I’m a gadget guy and this also applies to little useful programs for the computer.  I also like things to be as efficient as possible at least where work is concerned.

If you often have tons of windows open on your desktop and would like to get them organized, you can do this through a virtual desktop manager.  What it does is create several “virtual” desktops.  This means you can have a bunch of windows open, click a button and have an entire different set of windows appear—it’s like have multiple computers.  I’m using one now called Dexpot and it is at http://www.dexpot.de/.  I have one desktop for personal stuff, i.e. My blog editor, personal email, personal web browsing, one desktop for my IT support stuff and another for all my development tools. It’s nice to be able to switch back and forth at the touch of a button.  Oh, and did I mention that each desktop can have its own background and icons?  Check it out.

As always, use my recommendations at your own risk.  Just because they work for me, doesn’t mean they won’t break something on your computer.

I know, I know…Enough Facebook Bashing

I’m not obesssed, I promise!  I just keep seeing Facebook related headlines and I will share so people don’t think it’s just me =)  It seems that the US Senate has concerns as well (don’t know how I feel about being on the same side as the Senate on an issue): http://www.downloadsquad.com/2010/04/28/facebooks-instant-personalization-catches-flack-from-the-u-s-s/

Goodbye Facebook!

I gave up! I'm tired of Facebook deciding to hand over my personal information at the drop of a hat. So here is my new blog and I will work hard at keeping this thing up to date.
